January sewing

I subscribe to Prima magazine which I absolutely love receiving each month. The main reason being there is always a sewing pattern inside every edition. This months edition contained some skirt patterns. It was love at first sight when I saw the ruffle version and I knew this would be my first make of 2018. And here it is.

I used this checked fabric from my stash. I have no idea what it is because I picked it up a while ago from a charity shop but I think there is some wool content. I particularly liked the shades of pistachio green and khaki together and this fabric was perfect for the ruffle skirt because it is hard to tell the right side of the fabric from the wrong side.

I followed the pattern exactly and made a size 12. The only adjustment I made was to line my skirt with some lining fabric fabric that I had previously bought from Minerva crafts. I always prefer to line my skirts because I think they hang much better and they don't stick to your tights! Also it makes them warmer in winter if like me you like to wear them with opaque tights and boots.

Now I needed a nice top to wear with it and I imagined something with big sleeves would look really  nice and compliment the skirt ruffle. And I came across the perfect pattern in my stash that I had picked up in a charity shop a few months back for a £1.

Again I cut out a straight size 12 and made up the top exactly as per the pattern. Although during fitting I realised I could do with a little bit more ease so I removed the bust darts which solved the  problem. I used this pale green woven fabric from my stash that I had bought previously during a holiday in Cornwall.

My Mia top and Prima ruffle skirt turned out exactly how I had imagined them in my head and I am so pleased I tried out both of these patterns. I highly recommend them and I know I will make both of them again at some point. I was now keen to wear my new outfit and I did not have to wait long as I had just the special occasion the very next day!

A quick snap of me before I left to catch a train to London with my lovely sister in law where we enjoyed a fabulous afternoon tea at The Ritz.

Thanks for stopping by and until next time.
