January indoor colours

I cannot believe that it is the first day of February already today. The month of January has flown by and how was it for you? January traditionally is not my favourite month as here in the UK it is Winter. Also in January there are often lots of cold grey days, you hardly see the sun and the days are very short. However this year I have really enjoyed January and I think its down to the little things that have made me very happy.

Just before Christmas I purchased 2 amaryllis bulbs from my local garden centre.  I planted them up and put them in our kitchen and to my delight they both produced 2 sets of flowers! I have since been reading up on them and I want to try and keep them growing so I can plant the bulbs again in December. I'll let you know how I get on!

We had family over for dinner who gave me these beautiful flowers.

I added a touch of Spring to our living room with grape hyacinths and normal hyacinths that I re-potted into pretty bowls.

To try and keep winter colds at bay I tried out a soup recipe from a new cookery book . I made the cannellini bean, red lentil and chilli soup. I liked it so much that I have made it several times already.

I finished knitting my eve-river socks that I cast on at Christmas Eve. It was my first time knitting lace socks and I thoroughly enjoyed every stitch of this project.

For me January turned out to be a busy month for crochet alongs. I took part in the Olannand magazine  criss-cross shawl cal. This was a lovely shawl pattern and it worked up really quickly.

And finally I am also taking part in the woodland blanket cal which is based on Autumn colours. I am really enjoying adding the rows of different colours and this is great TV crochet as you can memorise the pattern quite easily. I started this a week later than most people because I wanted to finish my socks and shawl first. But I hope to have this finished this month.

Thanks for stopping by and until next time

Yvonne x
